The US Department of Education has funded a project involving Project Kaleidoscope, the American Chemical Society, and 10 other disciplinary societies to help faculty engage undergraduate students in building solutions to our societal sustainability challenges – the “big questions” that we must consider in the present so as to prepare the next generation to address and manage those issues. A key early activity of the project is to explore how faculty may or may not be incorporating these contemporary topics into their courses. We want to understand more about motivations, barriers, and suggested approaches to increasing instructional content and experiences that link curricula to the exploration of solutions for societal problems. A focus group will be held on Tuesday during BCCE with Matt Fisher of the ACS Committee on Environmental Improvement as facilitator. If you are interested in participating, please contact Matt at email@example.com or 724-433-6454.
