P177: From horse-drawn carriage to rocket ship: Dragging chemistry labs into the 21st century through technology

Stephanie Dillon (Florida State University, USA)

With the advent of smart pads and the use of lap tops becoming staples of the academic world, the use of paper products becomes less and less necessary. Major textbook distributors are already producing e-books for their most adopted lines. Lab manuals have been slow to follow suit due to the need of a protocol to follow during the lab but the extinction of the paper lab manual seems inevitable as well. What we propose during this talk is a description of a “perfect online manual” and how this manual could be integrated into any academic system to optimize both the instructor’s and the student’s experience in and out of the laboratory.
