P207: Running a successful summer research program at a PUI

Barbara Murray (University of Redlands, USA)

For the last 12 years, the University of Redlands’ Center for Science and Mathematics has been running a growing summer research program for undergraduate science students that include chemistry majors as well as other science majors.  Through the years we have modified the program and everyone’s expectations so that now we have a fairly successful, productive, and fun 10 week program that has about 30 students doing research with faculty every summer.  I’ll talk about what works and what challenges lie ahead.
