P254: Cyber peer-led team learning

PLTL is a model of teaching that preserves the lecture and replaces recitation in science courses with a weekly two-hour session during which six to eight students work as a team to solve carefully-constructed problems under the guidance of a peer leader. With the collaboration of the IUPUI Center for Teaching and Learning and the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, this model was adapted to be used in the online environment. The development and implementation of the cyber-PLTL (cPLTL) will be presented. Preliminary assessment indicates that cPLTL students achieve at a level comparable to those in face-to-face PLTL in general chemistry.
