P271: Achieving green sustainable chemistry and environmental accounting through senior secondary chemistry organic curriculum

Kunle Oke Oloruntegbe (Adekunle Ajasin University, Nigeria)

Much environmental problems can be solved through green sustainable chemistry and environmental accounting. Besides creating public awareness in the larger society, much can be achieved by the integration and inclusion of sustainability in the senior secondary school organic chemistry curriculum. Examination of the present senior secondary chemistry curriculum in Nigeria showed that not much of green chemistry is contained in it. This study is therefore aimed at developing a justification and a module of both the theory and practices of green chemistry for integration into the organic section of the curriculum. This effort will serve the purpose of creating environmental consciousness in the youngsters and helping them to take future career interest in green chemistry and related areas.
