P275: Green chemistry in organic chemistry lecture and lab

Loyd Bastin, Krishna Bhat (Widener University, USA)

Over the past two decades, a number of resources have been developed to aid in the incorporation of green chemistry into the organic chemistry laboratory.  However, the resources for incorporation of green chemistry into the lecture portion of organic chemistry are extremely limited.  This talk will discuss our efforts at Widener to incorporate green chemistry into our organic chemistry laboratory and lecture courses.  These courses were redesigned to educate students about green chemistry, provide green alternatives to the traditionally taught reactions, and require the students to apply green chemistry concepts.  This talk will discuss how the courses were redesigned and the resources that we used for the redesign.
