P343: Chemical education in a context of green chemistry

Rosa Maria González-Muradás (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, México)

We consider the laboratory as an excellent venue to promote and stimulate cultural and behavioral changes. These changes increase the sensibility among students of chemical subjects to help them search for alternatives to optimize renewable and not renewable resources. They are also motivated to apply technologies contributing to the development of “greeen chemistry”.

Laboratory Handbooks produced by a group of lecturers from the UNAM Faculty in the context of “green chemistry” will be presented. The focus of  the techniques employed in these handbooks is to familiarize students with facts and chemical phenomena from daily life. The manuals wake the students’ interest by executing experimental excercises designed to express ideas, ask questions, discuss possible answers and take a position within the discussion, so that each student can build up his own knowledge.
