Skills such as working well with others, scientific writing skills, and presentation skills are often expected among our students, though tremendous redesign of curricula is needed to better cultivate these skills. I will discuss some work to remake our physical chemistry laboratory course at Ohio State University. I will discuss improvements we are making to group work requirements, data collection protocol, lab reports assignments, formal writing assignments, group presentations, etc. Through some simple rethinking of better ways to present assignments to students, students work together in improved ways that make achieving the intangibles more natural and more likely to be acheived.
