P526: Establishing a state-wide consortium of secondary and tertiary chemistry educators in Iowa

Dawn Del Carlo (University of Northern Iowa, USA), Tom Greenbowe (Iowa State University, USA), Bill Harwood (University of Illinois, United States), Thomas Holme (ACS Examinations Institute, USA), Norbert Pienta (University of Iowa, USA)

The Iowa Chemistry Teachers-Regent’s University Chemistry Consortium (ICTRUCC) was created by chemistry educators at the three Iowa regents’ institutions as a mechanism for secondary and tertiary chemistry teachers to network and collaborate.  A statewide survey of chemistry teachers professional development needs was administered and shaped the content of three summer workshops; one each hosted by each Regent’s institution.  Workshops included chemistry content as well as pedagogy building activities and also worked to establish a community of chemistry education teacher practitioners across the state.  Summaries of the content and outcomes of those workshops and future directions for ICTRUCC will be discussed.
