P542: Current assessment practices in post-secondary chemistry departments: Results from a national survey

Jeffrey Raker (Iowa State University, USA), Thomas Holme (ACS Examinations Institute, USA), Kristen Murphy (University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, USA), Jacob Schroeder (Clemson University, USA)

In 2010, the ACS Examinations Institute, with funding from the National Science Foundation, conducted a national survey of departmental and individual faculty assessment initiatives. Findings from this study of approximately 1,500 faculty members provide a broad perspective on the types of assessments used by chemistry faculty and the roles those faculty members play in departmental assessment initiatives. This talk will provide an introduction and foundation for discussions about improving the use of assessment measures in collegiate chemical education.
