P599: Content analysis of the Chemistry Concepts Inventory (CCI)

Ruth Cink (University of Northern Colorado, USA), Paul Schwartz (University of Northernn Colorado, USA), Jack Barbera (University of Northern Colorado, USA)

The Chemistry Concepts Inventory (CCI) is a 22-item, multiple choice, instrument designed to evaluate students’ conceptions of first-semester college-level general chemistry related topics. Each item on the CCI was designed around the alternate conceptions of students. The instrument developers used their own experience as well as published studies in determining which conceptions to address on the CCI. Multiple individual items address some concepts while only a single item addresses other concepts. This project seeks to improve the content validity of the CCI by evaluating the range of concepts covered and, based on expert feedback, suggest areas of expansion for future versions.
