P63: Tips for providing chemistry outreach programs for K-8 homeschoolers

Laura Lee (Lock Haven University, USA)

The increase in the number of homeschooled students in recent years provides chemists and educators with more opportunities to reach a different audience for science outreach programs. Tips for dealing with unique challenges that may arise when working with groups of K-8 homeschoolers will be presented. Anticipating and planning for situations that may arise will make it easier to provide an enjoyable experience for the audience and presenter. Outreach programs designed for homeschoolers are great opportunities to encourage budding scientists, teach and reinforce experimental skills, and promote a positive image of chemistry.
