P646: Capture a teacher and you capture a generation

Mickey Sarquis (Miami University, USA)

Celebrating the work of secondary chemistry teachers has been a key objective of the JCE since Tom Lippincott led the initiative to establish the SSCS in the 70’s.  In 1979, working with Joe Lagowski and an array of feature editors, I began my 17 year journey as section editor.  During that time we saw a significant increase in the contributions from teachers and a proportionate increase in the numbers of pages dedicated to publish these works.

Now as the Journal moves to transition to its new pre-college associate editors, we are given the opportunity to reflect, remember, and reaffirm the importance of welcoming and encouraging the participation of these multitalented individuals who not only capture the hearts and minds of our youth, but also provide the instructional foundation for our discipline.  All the time, remembering that when you capture a teacher you capture a generation.
