P656: Tools and techniques for reaching students with blindness

Primarily literature in recent years has focused on describing how students with vision impairments pursue science experiences at the collegiate level.  This study sought to explore how students with blindness enrolled in a full-inclusion classroom experience science at the high-school level.  This study took a critical theory approach to exploring what tools and resources were valuable to students with blindness.  It also evaluated what qualities provided access to scientific representation (visualizations), experiences, and models to students with blindness.  The findings presented have implications for teachers, curriculum developers, textbook manufacturers, and researchers.
