P658: Using access technology in the chemistry laboratory for students with visual impairments

Cary Supalo (Purdue University, USA)

This presentation will discuss new access technologies now available to be used to empower students with visual impairments in a laboratory group. These technologies will discuss high tech and low tech solutions developed as part of the Independent Laboratory Access for the Blind (ILAB) project at Penn State University. Further technologies developed by researchers at Purdue University in partnership with Independence Science and Vernier Software & Technology as they relate to the Talking LabQuest product will illustrate how both formal and informal learning situations are now accessible via this new powerful access technology tool. Testimonies from end users will be included as part of this presentation.
