P668: AgCl solubility study: From mathematical model to experimental confirmation

We have developed a guided group research project that experimentally confirms the full solution to a AgCl complex solubility model developed by R. Claude Woods.  Students develop a theoretical model for the solution using MathCad.  Then groups design an experiment to confirm their models by measuring the free silver concentrations using a homemade silver electrode.  They also measure the total solubility of AgCl using ICP-AES.  Results show excellent agreement between the theoretical model and the student data.  Future innovations to this project will include a statistical exercise where students will use Q test to evaluate outliers and develop strategies to average multiple measurements for the same [Cl-].
