P950: California MSP: Incubating changes in districts and IHEs

Rialto Unified School District partnered with California State University, Pomona on a California MSP grant from 2004-2008.  During that time, the partnership induced many positive changes in the district as well as at the university.  The project’s focus on science provided workshops in science for the teachers of grades 4 and 5, coaching support for the teaching of science, and collaborative time for teachers and IHE faculty to develop authentic assessments in science.  This focus on effective teaching of science standards within the district increased the teaching of science, availability of laboratory supplies, and the use of inquiry science lessons.  These changes within the district resulted in an increase in student performance in science.  The IHE faculty partners have changed the ways they teach to incorporate more inquiry and a wider range of pedagogies.
