P958: Two-cycle organic chemistry: What about the second cycle?

Frank Rossi (State University of New York – Cortland, USA)

By exposing students to the core reactions of Organic Chemistry in a one semester foundational course, the two-cycle approach to Organic Chemistry gives instructors considerable latitude in organizing topics for the second cycle.   After a brief discussion of the philosophy and organization of the first cycle course, this talk will present the challenges and opportunities encountered teaching a second semester course in which the topics are primarily organized by similarities in reaction mechanism
