Chemistry Collaborations, Workshops and Communities of Scholars (cCWCS, TUES Type 3 Project #1022895), formerly known as The Center for Workshops in the Chemical Sciences (CWCS) has broadened its scope of activities from running workshops geared for college and university faculty toward building vibrant Communities of Scholars in topical areas. The workshops, which remain an integral part of the project, are designed to provide a background of key areas of the chemical sciences along with pedagogical methods to introduce the topics into the undergraduate curriculum. The developing scholarly communities are designed to connect diverse professionals, educators, and students in a self-sustaining network that allows for exchange of ideas, collaboration, and support with a goal of improving science education for everyone. This symposium will be divided into three areas: (1) forensic science scholars, (2) chemistry in art scholars, and (3) emerging scholarly communities. It will include presentations concerning all aspects of the cCWCS program including the content and scope of individual workshops, the impact participation in the workshop program has had on the ability of workshop alumni to develop new pedagogical material, the development of scholarly communities around topics of forensic science and chemistry and art, and development of interactive websites to support these scholarly communities.
