Many smaller colleges and universities do not have the luxury of offering several organic chemistry courses, keyed to an audience of chemistry majors, or non-major biologists, or nurses. Instead, the same organic chemistry sequence must serve everyone. This includes those who are required to take only a single term of organic chemistry. The purpose of this symposium is to explore approaches and exchange ideas about how to divide the material in a two-cycle sequence, how to integrate the first semester with the second semester, and how to keep the first semester rigorous enough for the majors without losing the non-majors.
