Brett Allen Criswell, Georgia State University
A new chemistry teacher with whom I worked said that she was reluctant to engage her students in inquiry activities because she was afraid of “letting go” of the conversation. Anyone who has conducted inquiry activities knows that they are only as meaningful (in terms of learning) as the conversations which occur before, during, and after them. Beyond asking good questions, most teachers are not confident about how to facilitate such conversations. This workshop will move the participants through a framework designed to take the fear out of ‘letting go’ of talk in the chemistry classroom; 1.5-hour session.
