W46: Innovative Experiments in Electrochemistry and Gas Laws

Irwin Talesnick, Queen’s University
John Eix, Upper Canada College

The participants will perform 12 inquiry style experiments through which their students will be provided with the opportunity to discover various Gas Laws, the meaning of vapor pressure, Avogadro’s Hypothesis and Mass Spectroscopy.  One of the experiments makes Dynamic Equilibrium (in the Gas Phase) come to life. The participants will also take part in a number of inquiry style demonstrations designed to introduce concepts in electrochemistry and the meaning of equilibrium.  Each participant will receive a package of equipment and supplies with a retail value of more than $300.00.  The kit includes a Deluxe Gas Experiment Kit, an Orange Juice Clock Kit, Periodic Table Pens, a number of chemistry T-Shirts, a Model Mass Spectrometer Kit, as well as a package of print and digital instructions for all of the activities discussed in the workshop; 6-hour session.
