W59: Misconceptions in Chemistry

Al Hazari, University of Tennessee

Students develop their own understanding of how nature works. These pre-concepts are brought to school and teachers have to reflect on them for better instruction.  In addition, there are school-made misconceptions which originate from inappropriate curriculum and instructional materials. This workshop aims to help 6-16 teachers and professors diagnose and cure students’ pre-concepts; 3-hour session.

Intended Audience: HS/UG

$35 fee; limit of 24 participants

Monday, July 30, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., 150 N Frear
